Blood pythons are medium length snakes with a large girth for its size. The head is long and broad and distinctly wider than the neck. The upper part of the snake is pale with a dark pattern and this is reversed on the underside. The dark elements of the pattern are usually red, orange-red, oxblood, brown, tan or yellow. The temperament of blood pythons varies. Some are placid while others are very aggressive and temperamental.
Blood pythons eat small mammals such as mice, rats, and rabbits.
Blood pythons are found in Malaysia, Sumatra, and islands in the Strait of Malacca. They require a habitat with a relatively high humidity.
Blood pythons are solitary and come together only when mating. Female blood pythons incubate the eggs and leave the young alone when they hatch. Male blood pythons have nothing to do with the eggs.
Female blood pythons lay up to 30 eggs and incubate them for 60 - 70 days. Once the eggs hatch the mother has nothing else to do with her offspring.
