Order Anura
Ranidae (1) Old World Tree Frogs (1)
All frogs and toads make up this order and can be found on every continent except for the poles. The name Anura means "without tail" and that is a characteristic of the amphibians that make up this order. They have four legs, the front being shorter than the back. And, while they can walk on land, their primary means of locomotion is hopping. Male Anurans chirp to attract females and define territory. Eggs are laid either in water or in a moist spot on land and the larvae grows up in water. As larvae, they are primarily herbiverous. After metamorphosing into adults they are carnivorous and can eat pretty much anything they can get in their mouth.
