Class Chondrichthyes
Carpet Sharks (1) Ground Sharks (1) Rays (1)
The name for this class comes from two Greek words meaning cartilage and fish. Members of this class have a cartilaginous skeletal structure. They also have rough skin similar to sand paper. Members of this class are usually flattened from top to bottom instead of side to side like bony fish. They are keen hunters with an excellent sense of smell and pressure sensitive patches on their sides. The shark, one of nature's best hunters, is a member of this class.
