Family Phoenicopteridae

Lesser Flamingo

The flamingo family contains for species of flamingo that can be found in South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. They vary in size, but all have very long legs for wading, webbed feet for swimming and kicking up mud, a long flexible neck, and a bent bill. The joint in the middle of the leg that appears to be the knee is actually the ankle. The knee is located at the top of the leg, just below the body. That means that flamingos stand in their toes all the time.
