Order Pinnipedia
 Eared Seals (1) Walrus (1)
The name Pinnipedia is made of two Latin words: pinna (feather or wing) and pedis (foot). So the name literally means wing-footed. Some believe that pennipeds are part of the family Carnivora, while others believe that pennipeds are a separate family. Either way, pennipeds consist of seals, sea lions, and walruses. All spend a considerable amount of time in the water, so they must live on the coast. Some live in the frigid polar temperatures, while others thrive in the tropical areas. The order Pinnipedia contains three families and a total of 33 species.
